How I went from seeking how to build an ecommerce web site to actually building one
I'm often asked how I came to web publishing, and why, and how to build an ecommerce web site, so here's a bit of autobiographical content for those wondering how a guy whose native language is not English managed to succeed online.
Back in December, 2004, I had spent weeks searching how to build an ecommerce web site. I thought it would be great to run an online business, instead of a brick-and-mortar store. Back then, I was convinced that I needed to sell things - I didn't know that providing information about something I love could translate into more dollars in my bank account by the magic of Google advertising.
Therefore I tried half a dozen concepts – an eBay store, and a few other “we-pack-it-all-for-you” online stores. They were quite easy to set up, and seemed not expensive. But... they didn’t bring any visitor, so I didn’t make a cent. The fact is, when selling a solution to people seeking how to build an ecommerce web site, most companies won’t say a word about traffic. But on the Web, traffic is everything. It's literally vital. No traffic, no sales (or no click on your ads); no sales, no business.
That’s why you should run away whenever you see an offer for a so-called “turn-key ecommerce website”. If succeeding online was that easy, everybody would do it. The reality? It takes work to succeed online and learn how to build an ecommerce web site that works. But it’s worth it. If you’re willing to spend evenings building your online business, you may get what we’re all looking for: freedom from daily commuting. I’m not there yet, but now I know it’s possible.
To make a long story short, after losing money (and time) with phoney concepts, I discovered a Canadian company that offers, in my opinion, the best set of web site building tools and solutions one could ever wish for. The name of the company is
Sitesell,
and the head of the company is Ken Evoy, a true gentleman that used to teach medicine before he launched the company that was gonna help thousands of ordinary people
turn their passion into an online business.
No matter what you decide, I hope you find what you need to make your dreams come true.
